Making sense of statistics

Lucia Seißler • 7. Dezember 2021

A great way to casually learn how numbers shape our world

I discovered More or Less by the BBC when I was looking for fun material on statistics that could be enjoyed in between times. The claim reads "Tim Harford explains - and sometimes debunks - the numbers and statistics used in political debate, the news and everyday life". And that is what he does in clips and podcasts that are all available on the website at the above link.

While sometimes the topics seem quite basic, it is those basic ideas and principles that are often overlooked numbers are being used or cited as arguments in media, public discussions or even at the dinner table. It is for anyone new in the area or who needs help making sense of statistic information, or even challenging them.

From there, you can also access changing content produced in cooperation with the Open University or even make your way to the University's free courses, for instance the one on Using data to aid organisational change
