Data are quite useless before they are turned into information. This can be done by simply arranging them, putting them into context and visualizing them. Imagine looking at a beautiful forest from the top of a mountain instead of getting lost on the ground, not seeing anything but treetrunks.
You will encounter the hardest part of the work before even starting the exploration. One common issue with available data is that it is not consistent - for many possible reasons. Many times, one has to spend time cleaning and putting the date into a shape that allows robust analysis.
Another tricky business is to narrow down the question to ensure a clear focus of the analysis. And last but not least, it is the design of a data visualization itself: It should be free of noise and clutter, yet providing all necessary information.
